An Appointment for Stella

Well now that I am on my way to mending it is time to get Stella fixed. When I first got my bike I decided to name it Stella. Why you might ask------ well because this was the name our daughter choose in high school to be called in her french class and I always liked that line from On The Waterfront. STELLA-----STELLA Here are pictures of the road rash damage to Stella. Look at the road rash along the brake and tachometer.
Driving light broken.

Turn indicator broken, cap missing.

Mirror broken, hope this doesn't mean seven years bad luck.

Pipes road rash. Saddle bags road rash. I will get new ones goodie goodie!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rear brake pedal road rash. Actually quite a bit of it is worn off. I just realized this today when I took the pictures.

Tail light--lens cover missing and road rash. Hoping most of the damage is cosmetic. Hubby did ride it to the main highway. He says the handle bars are askew but seemed to run okay. We will find out on the official inspection. The insurance requires an inspection by a certified Harley mechanic so that's why she needs to go in. We can have the repairs done anywhere but the inspection needs to be done with certified mechanic. Any internal repairs will be done at the shop but most likely the cosmetic repairs we will do. Maybe I will get a bigger tank. The tank has a couple dings but they didn't show up in the pictures.
Stella will most likely go in next week, if they have room for her.
Have a great evening. Dot

At a stand still

I am at a stand still with the sewing now. I have 14 stacks of 10, 6.5 inch squares (unfinished). I have sewn one strip of 14 squares together and this process is just going to be to much for me to do.
This project will be put on hold until more healing takes place. I have been reading also. I finished one novel already, I am a slow reader, and will start another today. I have been sorting through quilting books and print outs, saving and tossing. I have read new journals and I sleep a lot. I have started walking this week. I do think it is the ligaments that hurt more than anything. I might start some more MAM(mile a minute) blocks if I get to restless, time will tell. I do think my MAM blocks are more like mile a hour though.
I will go now, time for my lunch, meds, and nap. Take care and have a safe a happy holiday week-end. Sew a block in my honor. Dot

Late night, Ceiling fans & Helium balloons

As my title states late night, ceiling fans and helium balloons are not a good combination. If you double click on the picture you will see the remnants of curling ribbon left from a Get Well helium balloon.
Last night, shortly after 11:00 p.m. I was awoken from my snooze on the couch by dogs barking and popping noises. I admit I was startled, jumped, and jammed my thumb on my left arm. Oh was there pain, instant pain, my left arm is the one that is really broke and my thumb was dislocated. ( What I mean by really broke is, the bones had to be placed back where they belong and it is the arm that was in question of surgery. My right arm has a hair line fracture on the ulna. Both arms are broken on the ulna, the left just more severely.)
To continue with the story, I hadn't figured out what happened yet, I was scared with the dogs going crazy, hearing the popping noises and then another strange sort of noise, really can't describe the noise. Well I immediately ran upstairs and woke up hubby, he wasn't to pleased to be awoken so abruptly, which I don't think I would have enjoyed either. He came down stairs and found the balloon wrapped up in the ceiling fan making the weird indescribable noise. He cut it out and we disposed of the balloon. We went back to bed, I had to take more pain meds. ( I am trying to wean myself off of those things). I was in bed for only about 5 minutes and the popping began again, dogs going crazy, scratching at bedroom door. I figured it out, some idiot in the neighborhood was setting off fireworks. I had to sit up with the dogs for about an hour, until all settled down, then went back to bed. I will most likely be on meds all day today, my wrist is really throbbing. Everything moves as it should so I just moved things to quickly and aggravated the healing process. Oh well what's one more day of pain?

Update

Doctors appointment went well today. Stands at no surgery. My arm at the wrist will be a bit different but then again so am I. This is a picture of my new splint. I am happy to be done with the older one,(the hard whatever and ace bandages), but this one will take a bit of getting used to. I do have more mobility but along with the more mobility I also have the added responsibility of knowing and staying within my capabilities. My right arm seems to be doing okay, it has just a hairline fracture and I wear my brace most of the time. I think I will go out and look for a different style later in the week, that is for my right arm, I need to stay with what the Doctor gave me for the left. My next appointment is in 3 weeks, Sept 12th, and I then will hopefully get the okay to go back to work.
This is a picture of some of the blocks I have been working on. It has been slow and not very accurate. Many mistakes they just get left because I can't rip anything out. I probably won't be sewing for a few days, not until I get used to the new brace and figure out how to do it without to much stress and strain. I don't want to complicate matters and make things worse. I have been staying awake more the past few days so I will start on my walking program and hopefully start enjoying a few books. One of my buddies brought me a nifty book holder to use. I look forward to try that out.

Here is a picture of what I would love to be working on.

I see it each time I walk into my sewing room. Oh how our lives get turned upside down when accidents happen. I am learning how to lean on the Lord more and more.
Take care and have a good evening. DOT

Update

Just a crazy picture to go along with my post. My son made this for me a few years ago. I had it as mt wall paper for a while.
Now about my arms. No surgery as of today. The choice was mine, with no surgery my arm will be a bit deformed but I can live with that. I am not a hand model and my arms and hands are not insured for millions of dollars. Maybe I should look into that though, being my line of work and my enjoyment of quilting and other hand crafts. I swelling was quite a bit under the ace bandage but not much discoloration. Doc said the ER Doc did a great job setting the bones, he was very impressed with the job. He was impressed with my lack of pain and said I will be able to go back to work soon. I had to promise not to take the ace bandage off of my left arm and wear the splint on my right arm more. I have another appointment next Wednesday, if all goes well there will be no surgery and hopefully back to work the following week. I am so excited about the news. He said I will have the strength to use the clutch when all healed also. Pray for a good speedy recovery. Dot

My Own form of Therapy

I just couldn't take it, I was going stir crazy, so I took my splint off and very carefully and slowly started sewing these triangles together. I need it for both my mental and I figure physical therapy. Hey, what can it do but improve my fine motor skills. I know I won't have speed sewing sessions and who knows what the out come will be but I am smiling. I do believe my husband will be happier also. I am driving him crazy, being as antsy as I have been this evening.
I have a doctor appointment on Wednesday afternoon. I am praying for no surgery. I have peeked under the ace bandage, a lot of swelling and discoloration. I can't wait until I can see it without the bandage. I know that's weird but I like stuff like that. I might take my camera and get a picture of it. I don't know if hubby will go for that.
Well the wrist is starting to ache a bit so I best go. I did sew today. If you could see the smile on my face. Dot

Out of commission

Well fellow bloggers, I am out of commission for awhile. Our bike ride on Saturday was wonderful until I went into a rear wheel skid and ended up on the pavement. I was going down hill, in some curves, down shifted to slow down and went into 1st gear instead of 2nd. Well this caused to much drag on the rear wheel and sent me into a skid. Hubby was behind me, he said the bike and I skidded about 50 feet on the asphalt. I couldn't think of anything to do after I hit the pavement so I counted my rolls, it was either 4 or 5. I did have all my riding gear on so my helmet (full face with face shield) and leathers took the majority of abuse. I got up, I could walk with no pain, I could talk and carry on a coherent conversation, so I started wiggeling fingers. What did I end up with? I ended up with two broken arms. Lots of bruising on my arms, I don't know what the arm under the ace bandage looks like, I'll find out when the orthopedic surgeon takes the wrap off. I had to have IV sedation to set my left arm, its the one most injured. I hope there isn't any surgery needed but will find out after I see the surgeon.
I don't know what I am going to with myself during recovery. I can't work and I can't do any sewing. I can walk so this just might be my diet plan. I hope my right arm is okay in a couple weeks for sewing, it has only a hairline fracture. One of life's hiccups. It seems like I am on the 5 year plan with major body injuries. I look back and see the pattern. The saying is things come in three's, well this is my third major injury so maybe this is it.
Not to much damage to the bike, a broken mirror, broken riding light, tail light and some scrapping along with a couple small dents in gas tank. Hubby rode my bike to the main hi-way, a friend came and picked the bike and me up, and he said the handle bars are a bit out of alignment.
I am home, it could have been worse, and I will heal. Not much else, my arm is getting sore from typing. I don't know when I will post again but I will be reading. I most likely won't comment. Good night to all. Dot

P.S. Yes I will ride again, most likely not until next year but I will ride again.

Just call me a copy cat

I hope you all read Tonya's blog, Lazy gal quilting. If you don't, you should, the link is above. You might want to put it in your favorites also. Well anyway, Tonya is working on this great Halloween Bouquet and I just can't help myself, I have to try my hand at it also. I just fell in love with hers when I first say it. This is my version so far. I will add more later and the fabric I have placed for the vase is just that. This is most likely the fabric I will use for the vase but right now it is just folded and placed there. I am having fun with this project even though it is time consuming, I have never done applique like this before. I am sewing interfacing on the fabric then turning it right side out and pressing. There is probably an easier and faster way but this is the technique I decided to try with this project. I will make a few more flowers, add some leaves and them some more halloweeny items. Cats, bats, and I don't know a witch??? maybe a moon. I will see where the piece takes me. I found a pattern for a skeleton, I don't really know. Stay tuned, my pink/black quilt is on the back burner until this is done. Not much else, just wanted to share this new project.

My last UFO

I am finally doing it, I am finally quilting my last UFO. I made this quilt about three years ago. I think it has aged long enough. I so want to get this done. This is the very quilt that I had to rip out the stitching out on last week. I am doing a panto, fay feathers, I can't remember who it is by right now. I do like the pantograph, I am beginning to think it is one of my favorites right now. I'm about half way through. Things are going slow right now, still fighting the sinus thing. I will give myself until Wednesday the make a decision about doctor appointment. As you can probably read between the lines, I hate to go to doctors. Here is a picture of the pink/black blocks. They are all sewn together, now I need to trim and sew into the top. This will hopefully happen through the week some time. We'll see how I feel.
Well that's about it for me and my productivity of the week. I will plug along, hope to get well. Pray to get well. We have a motorcycle ride to Mt Rainer planned for Saturday and really don't want to miss that. I am really praying something gives soon.
Have a great day. Oh yeah, sew for a bit, relieve some stress. Dot.
