Body of Gail's quilt done.

Here is the completed main body of the quilt design by Gail. What a fun quilt to make. The blocks go together very easily the only thing I did that I would not recommend is use the stripped fabric. I wanted the strips to flow with the direction of the block therefore I had to cut on the bias which really is not fun. I don't think the quilt lies as well as it would if I would not have done this. I will have to try with other fabrics and see, but that won't be for awhile.
I am going to take a bit of a break and quilt the Jacob's Ladder now. I am excited to get this done though. I really want to see how it comes out.

Progress on Gails quilt

This is where I am right now. I like how it is coming out so far. I am excited to see the completed results. I will admit this block goes together very easily. I am thinking there just might also be a Christmas quilt in this pattern. I will see how this turns out and then go forward from there. So many lovely quilt ideas and so little time.
Nicole, don't forget to contact me. You left a comment on my blog on the 21st and your name was drawn.

Starting a new project

Well I did not adjust how the pictures were posted so we get what we get. If the pictures go in the order I think they will here is the explanation. The Arkansas Crossroads block is from Judy L's challenge back in October. This setting is going to be one designed by Gail at goingtopieces. I really liked her design and asked if I could make it. She gave me permission so now I have to time to start it. I look forward to getting it done and see how it comes out. I have chosen to use a bit of a different border but I am excited about the design Gail came up with.

The other photo is of the wonderful charm pack I received from MIDOHIOKNITTER. She had a give away on her blog in December and I won!!!! I was really happy about winning and also happy with the wonderful charm pack I received from Vickie. Check out her blog if you haven't already.

Well I will get back to sewing and hopefully have some progress to show later.

P.S. Vera thanks for stopping by and the wonderful Holiday greeting. I pray you and your family have a wonderful New Year.

I wish a Happy New Year to all my blog readers. Dot.

Top completed

Here it is, the completed Jacob's ladder top. It finished off at 95x95. It is a square quilt. I don't really know how I feel about square tops, it just doesn't seem right to me but it is staying this way. I will get a back put together and get it quilted. It will not be done for the anniversary which is on the 28th but I have already informed the kids of that and I will mail it to them when completed. Wow a queen size Jacob's ladder is a lot of 4 patch and HST's. Sure looks good though and my son should not complain about not having enough hanging over the sides. The reason it is on my bed is I wanted to check the hang length and it covers the mattress and box springs on my bed so should be the same for him.
Well onto the next project for the night. Good evening to all. Dot

White Christmas

I know this is not as much as other parts of the country have but this is the first time I can ever remember seeing it snow in Portland at Christmas.
It certainly is nice to see the snow and it reminds me so much of seeing snow fall as a kid. I just love it.
I pray everyone is having a wonderful Christmas.

Charlie Brown tree

When we went to Montana for Christmas my husband decided we needed a Christmas tree from our property. What a great idea. Well when we started looking around we couldn't find one that was perfect so this is him carrying out the one we cut down. It certainly is a Charlie Brown tree. It is very weak and sparse, but it is a tree from our little corner of Montana and I like it. I did not even want a tree this year. Hubby insisted on a tree, I have to admit this tree does make me smile and even though it is sparse and Charlie Brown, it is well loved.
Merry Christmas to all. Don't forget to leave a comment for the give away on my previous post.
Yesterday our DSL was down and we couldn't get to the Internet, I am praying that doesn't happen again. I will draw on Friday if all goes well. Dot

Bloggiversary!!!!!

Well this is the day, today it has been two years since I started my blog. Wow, how far I have come. I never thought I would know how to do this and here I am two years into it.
I will thank Finn at Pieces from my Scrapbag for getting me started. I was looking for quilting blogs and hers was one of the first I found. I enjoyed her blog so much and wanted to comment. At that time you had to have a blog to comment so I started one and now here I am two years later.
See this bag, well this will be part of a special prize to the lucky winner. I will draw a name next week, on Friday, after work. Leave a comment. You must have a way for me to contact you either through your blog or by reading mine to see who the winner is. Good luck to all and to all A very Merry Christmas. Dot

Painting completed

Well here it is, the completed painted room. Hubby finished the painting on Saturday and yesterday completed the touch ups and replacing the furniture and items into the room. We did change the layout of the furniture so it is a bit different, I will get used to it and do like the new layout. The only thing is now I will have to keep my things put away. That will take a little work on my part.

This wall is actually the same color as the others but I guess the way the flash worked washed it out a bit. There is art work that will go on this wall but has not been hung yet. I think hubby is considering changing the picture that will hang here. The reason I think this, he was asking about another picture last evening. If he wants to hang that picture we will have to have it framed.
Oh well, if that happens I guess I know where the bonus money will be going.
Have a great day. Dot

Completed

Just a quick post to show the completed kimono wall quilt. I think the person I have in mind to receive this will like it.
Not much else going on. Hubby has been working on the walls all evening and I have been working in my sewing room.
Have a good evening. Dot

Christmas decorating saga

This is my decorating story and I am sticking to it. Now that the college football season is over and the bowl games have not started yet it is a good time to decorate. Last Saturday after my sewing group we were going to start decorating. This is where I got before hubby decided the family room needed to be painted before we could decorate it. Sooo here is the beginning of painting the family room. He painted for awhile and decided it wasn't going as well as it should.

Sooooo last night we went out to get new paint. The small yellow patch you see on the wall is the new color. It is brighter than I thought it would be but will be just fine.

Here is what he had done already. I agree, it is not turning out well but it does look like stucco. I just want my home back to normal so I can go on with decorating and get ready for Christmas.

I am not into all the "it just has to look perfect stuff". I did not want a tree this year, we did not have one last year and I loved it. Hubby wants a tree so we will have one. I will let him do most of the work on that and I will decorate and make it festive around the house.
I have been assured all will be done and decorated for Christmas. Keep your fingers crossed. I will let you know how it turns out. Dot

Detour

Well I know I was supposed to be working on the Jacob's Ladder. I did, I honestly did do some work on it tonight. I have cut out all the strips I need to complete the HST and have the squares cut to sew them together but I really wanted to make something with more color. This is what I came up with. Last summer I found a picture of a bargello kimono and liked it but didn't want to sew the strips together. I wanted this to be a simple project, just for the evening. I followed the picture as well as I could decipher, I thought maybe this is how it was put together. I used an Asian print I have. I like the outcome. I will quilt it and figure out who will receive this as a gift.

Now that the detour is over I will get back to my regularly scheduled program. I have sewing group tomorrow so I need to get things ready for our Christmas party. We are to bring 4 fat quarters for an exchange and some goodies to munch on while sewing. I look forward to meeting with all the ladies and sewing together. It is much fun to see what everyone is working one. Just like reading the blogs I have marked, so much fun to see and read about what everyone is up to. Have a good evening. Dot

Quick post

Well I am done with the 4 patches. I cut and sewed and sewed and sewed. I think I counted over 600 of these little buggers. This is what I thought was interesting. I am easily amused. As I chain stitched this is how they landed on the floor, no coaxing, it is just fascinating to me that the would do this all on their own.
Here is the pile all sewn and pressed. Tonight I will start on the half square triangles. I messed up on the last ones I made and now I have to cut more fabric. Good thing I bought way to much of that.

Have a good day. I have to get ready for work. Dot.

Next project

I am moving on to the next project. I have decided to make a red/white Jacobs ladder for my son and his wife for their 1st anniversary. I have a few of the blocks completed. This quilt will be slightly larger than a queen so it will fit their bed without fear of someone being a blanket hog. The one I made them for their wedding gift was a queen and my dear son asked me to make one just like it but larger because according to him his wife hogs all the blanket while sleeping.
I tend to believe he is the blanket hog. I told him I would not make another just like the other only larger but I would make a new quilt for them with the same colors. They want it red and white. I am already tired of making it because it is boring working with the same two colors. I hope to have it done by the end of the month. It will be nice when completed but getting there is getting me down. I really want to be working with Christmas fabric right now. I will keep my nose to the grind stone and get it done.
Have a good evening. Dot

Pictures of finished projects

These are my projects I have finished in the last few weeks. Here is a picture of the quilt I made for the little one recovering from staph infection. I probably should have used a darker pink for the letters but this is what it is. I know the background with the doll is red and I choose to use pinks elsewhere but there is pink in the fabric and I used what I had on hand. I have a lot of pink because of the breast cancer quilt I made and the couple of trip around the worlds in pink. I think it turned out fine for just starting on late Friday night, and it is to be a kick around quilt. A quilt to be loved while feeling horrible.
Here is the final show tree. I really liked the idea of a rake but thinking of the recipient I don't think it would do. I think the final outcome will be just what the person who this will go to will really like. I showed it to a co-worker, a shoe freak, and she loved it; so the recipient should like it also.

Bonnie asked me to show a picture of the completed booties. This is what they look like after felting before worn. They are sooooo warm.

The next two are pictures of the great free pattern Marcie at Patchalot allowed use all to use. I have the binding sewn down and think I will give them to co-workers as Christmas gift.
I will close now. So much to do, so little time. Have a great week. Dot

Shopping with Hubby

Today hubby and I went out to do the errands I usually do by myself. I go to the post office, get the mail, and drop by JoAnn's super store (next to the post office) if there is an item I want to get.
Well, today hubby went with me because we need to update (renew) our passports. We stopped and got the pictures taken, went to get the mail, went to JoAnn's. I had two 50% off coupons and decided he could buy an item for me using one of the coupons. I wanted 2 skeins of yarn. Easy enough, well he started looking at the fabric and this is what he found. The Christmas fabric is 50% off and he wanted this fabric, and as you can see there is a pattern there also. He wants me to make him a bowling shirt out of this Christmas fabric. I will make it but I told him it will not get done this year. He is a funny guy. I certainly hope he wears the shirt when done.
I am going to load the child's quilt on the machine. The USC game comes on in about 30 minutes and I will watch that. I hope they win, if they do it will be Rose Bowl for a team I thought was not going to be going to a bowl at all this year. Funny how things work out. FIGHT ON!!!!!!!
