All I need are the buttons and a bit of hand sewing and hubby's new Christmas shirt will be done.
I think he will like it.

My Christmas Sparkler

This is my version of the Christmas Sparkler table topper Marcie designed this year. I wanted to make mine look country so I choose to use red and blue bandanna fabrics. I like the gold stars but I can't say I really like the green gingham I choose to use with the red. I think it should have been a bit more mellow, not so over powering. It is what it is.
Go to Marcie's blog and find the pattern. This is the second year she has offered a free Christmas table topper pattern. They are fun to make.
Marcie even has a page where she displays the finished tops.
Have a good day, capitalism still rocks. Dot

Change, my version

This is the type of change going on in my life right now. These are two of the four diapers I have made for my new grandbaby. They are so fun to make. I pick up rems of different flannels and make these designer diapers for the cute little guy. I tried them last week end when he stayed with us and they seemed to work well.
This is a picture of a quilt I did for someone. It is a really cool fall quilt. I really like the colors she used. I wish I could keep it for myself but I don't think that would go over very well.
I best get to doing some housework and sewing on the shirt for my husband.
Have a great week-end.

You betcha

Have I been sewing during the time that I have been rubbing libs the wrong way with my Obamanation news?
You betcha!!
I made a Halloween themed Tobacco Road, following Bonnie's pattern. I like how it turned out and and have decided to call it "Trick or Treaty". We had a really cute little trick or treater on Halloween night and she kept saying trick or treaty so I have decided to to name the quilt that.
I have spent every week-end with my grandson and watching some great football games. (I have made and executive decision and there will no longer be any pictures of my family posted on this blog.) Grandpa and I even had the privilege of having the little guy spend the night with us last Friday. We had fun. I made to receiving blankets for him and two diapers. They are using cloth diapers so I have been buying up flannel rems to make some designer diapers for the little fella.
I have another quilt top done but will not post a picture of that until it is quilted and the binding sewn down.
I have to get back to work. Have a good day. Dot

Encouragement

Here is a picture of the break down of the states by counties for the last election. Us conservatives have something to be hopeful about. If the incoming administration remains a democracy and does not lean towards dictatorship as has been suggested by some, this is encouraging to me.
Just wanted to share, yes I do believe that the majority of American still believes in the American dream and treasures capitalism over socialism.

Gifts

A while ago, A Latte Quilts, had a drawing and I found out after the fact. I was surfing the web and came across her blog after the drawing was done. I left a comment regarding the fact and how sad I was that I missed out on the drawing. Paula, was so sweet she offered to send me some of her scraps and here they are. I am very excited to see what becomes of these. I will let you know, I promise.

This little quilt will be leaving my home shortly and arriving in its new home. This is my booty swap quilt. I hope the recipient likes it. I do have a few other goodies to go along with the quilt.
I will have other quilts to show as I get the binding done. I am working on Marcie's Christmas table topper she has posted this year. I will post a picture of that when finished. I have many things I need to get working on so I don't know when the pictures will be posted. Stay tuned. Dot

Capitalism Rocks

Capitalism and the Financial Crisis
Friday, November 07, 2008By Walter E. Williams

There has always been contempt for economic liberty. Historically, our nation was an important, not complete, exception. It took the calamity of the Great Depression to bring about today’s level of restrictions on economic liberty.

Now we have another government-created calamity that has the prospect of moving us even further away from economic liberty with the news media and pundits creating the perception that the current crisis can be blamed on capitalism.

We see comments such as those in the New York Times: “The United States has a culture that celebrates laissez-faire capitalism as the economic ideal. Or, “For 30 years, the nation’s political system has been tilted in favor of business deregulation and against new rules.” Another says, “Since 1997, Mr. Brown (the British Prime Minister) has been a powerful voice behind the Labor Party’s embrace of an American-style economic philosophy that was light on regulation.”

First, let’s establish what laissez-faire capitalism is. Broadly defined, it is an economic system based on private ownership and control over of the means of production. Under laissez-faire capitalism, government activity is restricted to the protection of the individual’s rights against fraud, theft and the initiation of physical force.

Professor George Reisman has written a very insightful article on his blog titled “The Myth that Laissez Faire Is Responsible for Our Financial Crisis.” You can decide whether we have in an unregulated laissez-faire economy.

There are 15 cabinet departments, nine of which control various aspects of the U.S. economy. They are the Departments of: Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Education, Energy, Labor, Agriculture, Commerce, and Interior. In addition, there is the alphabet soup cluster of federal agencies such as: the IRS, the FRB and FDIC, the EPA, FDA, SEC, CFTC, NLRB, FTC, FCC, FERC, FEMA, FAA, CAA, INS, OHSA, CPSC, NHTSA, EEOC, BATF, DEA, NIH, and NASA.

Here’s my question to you: Can one be sane and at the same time hold that ours is an unregulated laissez-faire economy? Better yet, tell me what a businessman, or for that matter you, can do that does not involve some kind of government regulation. A businessman must seek government approval for the minutest detail of his operation or face the wrath of some government agency, whether it’s at the federal, state or local level.

Just about everything we buy or use has some kind of government dictate involved whether it’s package labeling, how many gallons of water to flush toilets or what pharmaceuticals can be prescribed. You say, “Williams, there’s a reason for this government control.” Yes, there’s a reason for everything but that does not change the fact that there is massive government control over our economy.

It is incorrect to say that laissez-faire or free markets are unregulated. There is ruthless regulation, but it’s not by government. Take the mortgage industry. In the absence of government interference, it is unlikely that a lender would extend a mortgage to a person with a poor credit history, making no down payment, and providing no verifiable employment history. But under the pressure of the government’s Community Reinvestment Act and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac buying up or guaranteeing such mortgages, a lender will.

When businesses make unwise decisions that lead to bankruptcy, their assets are sold off to someone else who might be able to put them to wiser use. Government bailouts give businesses a reprieve that the market wouldn’t give them. Bailouts have at least two effects. They permit continued unwise use of resources and it creates what economists call moral hazard, the expectation of future bailouts and others hopping on the bailout wagon.

The blame for our current financial mess rests with government, with the major player being the Federal Reserve Board keeping interest rates artificially low and the congressional and White House market interference in the name of more home ownership. In the clamor for more regulation over our financial institutions, has anybody bothered to ask whether people in government know what they’re doing?

A great article found on CNSNews.com. It is a good sight to get some news that is informative and not from the liberal slanted news. I hope you continue to get your information from outside sources.

May God Save America

I am so sorry to see that Americans now value Socialism/Marxism over capitalism. I for one will never give up on capitalism.

I will take a few days off to recover from this shock, I really never thought I would live to see socialism take a foot hold in America. I guess I thought to highly of my fellow man.

I need time to grieve and to find my misery index. I packed it away when we were finished with the Carter years but it looks like I am going to need it again. I can only hope it dips that low.

Have a good evening and we will make it through these dark days America. Let's only hope they don't take away the 1st and 2nd amendment from us from the get go.

Things I have learned about this election:

a) the character of a man no longer matters

b) liars are rewarded in our society

c) the presidency can be bought

d) the media will go to any extents to elect a president, even suppressing important information that would allow the people to make an informed decision

e) Obama will now fill my car with gas and pay my mortgage, (where does the line begin for this program)

I just hit the jackpot.

Silver lining; the immigration problem is solved, who wants to come to what they are leaving.
One problem already solved. Hip Hip Horray
