Tulips

Well here is where I am with my tulip quilt. I like what I see so far, the only thing is some of my stems are off a bit but I am planning to leave them as they are. I hope to complete the body of the quilt tomorrow and do the borders over the weekend and into next week..
I just want to post a picture to show where I am with the quilt so far.
Good evening to all and I hope everyone enjoys there bonus day tomorrow. Dot

Prizes and more

I received my gift from Jill today. Her blog is Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor. She had a drawing a few weeks back and I was the lucky winner. These are the goodies I received. Thank-you Jill, they are wonderful and will work really well with my project I am doing right now. The project, well the tulip quilt from Red Geranium Cottage caught my eye as it did Kim at Kim's Big Quilting Adventure. She made a smaller version of it over the week-end which once again peaked my interest. Sooooo what was I to do but start one myself. I finished quilting my Tripping with Bonnie, it is waiting for the binding. I just had to start the tulips.

I have all my tulip blocks made, now I will make the stem blocks, then start sewing the quilt together. It is a rather easy quilt to make and I am excited to get it done. I know I know, I should be working on SITP but I have some math to figure on that and I am just not in the mood. I want to play and play I will do right now. I have a few quilts to get quilted also but play I will do. Do I sound like a bratty kid or what?
Off to play ---- Good evening. Dot

Tripping with Bonnie

I have finished the trip around the world quilt top. I have decided to name the quilt Tripping with Bonnie. The reason, I used a pattern from Bonnies website, Quiltville, and I think the colors are rather psychedelic. I am preparing the backing now and will quilt on it through out the day. I have other quilts to quilt also but will start with this one. I will most likely spend this week quilting tops and gathering tax info. The quilting will be fun, the tax info not to much fun. Libby has asked for pictures of ironing boards. Not to exciting on my part. This is a new cover I put on while recovering from my broken arms. The one underneath is shot. I mean shot. It was so bad the fabric would just split. I don't think it was as bad a Libby's though. I do think hers takes the cake.
I have never thought to patch mine with iron on patches. Great ingenuity. Off to sew the backing. Dot

Trip Around the World

I have finished the 25 snail trails or Virginia Reels needed for the SITP I have started. I am very happy that I am done with these blocks. I need to start making the star blocks but have decided to take a break and do something else. I decided to take a trip around the world with Bonnie from Quiltville. I have made her pattern before and really like the simplicity of it. These are the fabrics I will be using. This is acutally a picture of the strips sewen together before ironing the seams.
I received my order from Knit Picks today. Oh, I am very happy with the yarn. I need to finish what I have started before I can begin to open any of these skeins. I plan to use the white for socks. I will dye it as I want it done.

The colored skeins will be used in felted booties. I will work on then through out the year and give as Christmas gifts. I do have another order coming. I want to knit a couple pair of mittens and had to order the yarn for that. I am so excited that I found this site.
Well on to sewing. Have a good evening. Dot

Valentine's completed

I completed the valentine piece. I decided it needed to look like a postage stamp so that is what I did. With my embroidery machine I put USA 41 to make it look like a 41cent postage stamp. I like it. I figure this way I can keep it out longer than just Valentines Day.
Here was my valentines gift. I bet no one else received this for Valentines Day. I love braunschweiger and occasionally treat myself to some. Well hubby went shopping last night and decided to get me a whole pound for my gift. I did smile, made myself a wonderful sandwich with it today, and enjoyed every bite.
Have a wonderful weekend. Dot

Tulips in the garden
Tulips in the park
The tulips I like best
Are my sweetie's two lips in the dark
Happy Valentines Day to one and all
This is a saying my mother used to say to use as children. The last line is actually your two lips in the dark but I didn't think that would be to appropiate for my blog readers.
I made this tonight. It is not quilted so I will hopefull do that tomorrow night. I wanted to make something for Valentines Day and wanted a diverson from SITP.

My Charlie Brown top

Here is the top I completed today. It is my first Charlie Brown (CB) top of the year. Why do I say first, because I am bound to make a few more before the year is out. I say Charlie Brown top because it didn't go together that well, points don't match and there are many many tucks a buckles in the top. Some little kid will love it though.
Last year, Aug 12th, I was supposed to meet with the ladies in the sewing group I attend. Well for those of you who have been regular readers of my blog you know I did not make this date because the day before I wrecked my motorcycle and broke both my arms. We were to work on stack n wack that day. With broken arms I was unable to start my quilt so decided earlier in the week maybe I should try it. Well this is the result of that attempt. Not good.
This is the first time I have ever made a stack n wack. I bought some Halloween fabric I thought would work but as you can see it didn't. I certainly learned a lot in this process. I learned that the fabric needs to have a repeat but it doesn't or shouldn't have a lot of solid space between the design. I learned that the yardage is important and it seems to take a lot of fabric. I don't know if I particularly like this concept either. I might try again with a different pattern. As you might also suspect form the top I was short two squares. I cut two squares form the left over fabric but guess what, forgot to add the 1/2" to the square size so to small. What did I do, add a bright yellow border around those two square so they stick out like a sore thumb. Now, wouldn't everyone do this!!!! What an idiot I am.
Oh well, it's done, I will quilt it, and somebody out there will love this little quilt to death. Who knows when the next CB top will appear. Good evening to all. Dot

It's a Baby

I am going to be a grandma. How about that. I have known for a few weeks now but had to wait until I had the okay to post the news on my blog. Our daughter is going to make us grandparents. We certainly are excited about this.
This is a not so good picture of a baby blanket I made in 1998. This is when I first started quilting so the quilt is not made all that well. I bought the squares while in Montana the summer before and embroidered them. Leslee decided she wanted this baby blanket and asked me to keep it for her. I was beginning to think I was never going to be able to give it to her. Now 10 years later, in September, I will have a grandbaby to wrap in this blanket.
This won't be the only special blanket made for this baby. I have an idea or two in mind and the baby's father, well his mom is quilter also and I am sure she has some ideas in mind. This baby will have plenty of quilts, lucky little one.
I will try to get a better picture of the quilt to share but this is it for now.
I am still sewing together the snails trails for SITP. I am getting bored with it, keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end. Well, back to the machine, the sooner I get the blocks sewn together the sooner I can get the quilt top done.
Have a good evening. Dot

Underdogs Win!!!!!

NY Giants win Super Bowl. I am so happy about this. I was rooting for the Giants. I choose to root for the underdogs. They looked like they were going to loose but in the last few minutes of the game they won. It was exciting and fun to watch. I was about to give up when there were 2 minutes left the the Patriots were up by 4 but decided to ride it out. Am I glad I did. What a great game. I think this was one of the best Super Bowls I have seen. The teams were matched really well, not a blow out, and every point was fought for and won. Good game and very happy the underdogs won. (Sorry SweetPea)

Goodies from SweetPea

A while back SweetPea at Coffee Time Quilts Studios had a "Can you guess what this is?" contest. Well I was one of the winners, there were two of us. These are the neat gifts I received today in the mail. Oh, there were some candies also, but I already ate those. I already know where is fabric will be used. Thanks SweetPea. Here is my first block for Shakespeare in the Park. I don't know if I really am a fan of this block but this one did turn out well. I have tried them in the past and have not liked the outcome. Maybe I just needed more practice.
Well on to more sewing. We are having a wet cold day here, as I say the land of gloom and doom, during the winter months. So dark and wet. Happy sewing to all. Dot

quilting done

Cheryl, at Quilting Hallow, wanted to know what pattern I used to make my pink/black quilt. This is a picture of the cover of the book I got the pattern out of. The pattern is called Crossroads to Jericho. A fairly easy pattern. It just took me a long time because of my broken arms and having to have the ability to pin all the seams.

Here is a picture of a corner of it quilted. I don't know why but the pink just does not want to photograph. The only thing I can think is because I dyed the fabric with RIT dye it washes out with the flash of the camera. It really is a soft pink and black.
I wish the true colors would show but that is just the way it is. All done quilting and now I will put a black binding on it. I want to get this done so I can sew the binding down while watching the superbowl. Sorry SweatPea, I am going to root for the underdogs. The Patriots will probably win but I will root for the underdogs. Go Giants!!! Dot

Let's hear it for womens lib

This post is a rant, if you don't want to read it just move on. What do we think we (us women) gained by wanting to be just like men? The older I get or should I say the longer God allows me to live, the more I detest the womens lib movement. Don't get me wrong, I don't think woment should be treated like second class citizens but I sure do miss the chiverly of men and their desire to help a women.

Where is this coming from you might ask. Well this morning was my Job Corp day. The roads were good until about the last 3 to 5 miles. It was an incline, snowy and slippery, I did fine, a bit of slidding but could keep the vehicle in control. Well then it happened, I turned onto the drive to Job Corp facilities and got stuck. I had to put chains on, in the snow, dressed for work. Well I was under my vehicle putting the chains on two men (who work there) just turned in the drive and drove right past me. They waved, one even had to back out onto the hiway to get traction to go around me. Do I blame these men for their actions, yes to some extent but I mostly blame this on womens lib. Why should a man want to help a woman out when they are constantly told they are not needed or necessary? This just burns me and I wanted to unload.

Have a great day, I am off to quilt now. Dot.
