Moving On

I finished Inca Sunshine. It is bright, it is a top, and now I need to quilt it. I will find a backing this week-end and start quilting it.

Now it is time to move on to the next project. I joined the 4 seasons quilt swap this time around. I had wanted to join earlier but with my broken arms, healing, and catching up, I didn't want the pressure. I feel like I can handle it now. I have received my partner notification and I have an idea floating around in my head. Here are the fabrics I have chosen. I certainly hope the idea works out in real life as well as I have it worked out in my mind. Time will tell. I will share as much as I can as I go along but not to much as I don't want to give it away.

I have a few other projects to work on. Projects around the house and quilting. I will be having a very busy summer.

Until Later. Dot

Inca Sunshine

I have made some more progress on my HAD. I have also decided to name this quilt INCA SUNSHINE. It is very bright. I guess I didn't think it would be this bright. I almost feel like I should wear sunglasses when I look at it.
I watched the hockey game tonight. I am really starting to get disgusted with sports. The officiating was just bad. It seems like they refs or maybe professional hockey wanted the Penguins to win tonight so win they were going to do. It didn't matter what penalties they did, the penalties would not be called, but minor calls would be made against the Red Wings. I am beginning to think the games are rigged to go to more games to bring in more revenue. I hate to think this is happening but money and greed go hand and hand. Oh well, I will get off my soap box. I know most of you don't watch so you probably don't even understand what I am writing about. As Scarlet would say, Tomorrow is another day. It really doesn't affect my life except for the time spent. I do knitting or sewing while watching so really nothing lost.
DD called tonight. All is going well with the baby. She is 5 1/2 months and looks good. She cracks me up with some of her thoughts and worries but I guess we were all like that with our first. September will come all to fast.
Good night to all. Dot

Making Progress

It has been slow going but I am making progress on the HAD. I have all the blocks sewn together and the first row done. I am really frustrated with myself. I have never been this far behind on a HAD before, I know this is self imposed, it really doesn't matter, but it still bugs me.

I did get this top quilted this week-end. I have yet to do the binding , but it is quilted. I think the binding will be black but haven't thought that far ahead.
Hubby and I decided to do a simple (what a joke) week-end project. We were going to update the downstairs bath. Remove the wallpaper and paint. Replace some grout and caulking around the bathtub and reseal all the grout. Well, as simple week-end projects go, it turned out to be a big chore and still not done. The paper did not come off easily and took two full days to remove. The caulking is being stubborn, the grout is a bear to dig out of the areas that need to be repaired. Oh well, such is life. It will be done.
Well I need to shower and get ready for bed. Good night to all. Hopefully tomorrow will allow more time for the HAD. Dot

BOO-HOO

Scott Dixon won the Indy 500. I was rooting for Helio (of course) but he just couldn't get it done this year.
Congrats to Scott and his team. It was a good race.
Now onto the Stanley Cup finals. Red Wings won last night and will play again tomorrow night.
Have a great Holiday. Don't forget to honor those who gave their lives for our freedoms.

One Block

All the points are put together but not all the HST are trimmed. I trimmed only three so I could at least do one of the blocks that I was supposed to have done today. I do not like being behind but at least I am sewing. I planed to trim again tomorrow and sew the rest of the blocks. Hopefully I will get caught up over the long week end. We do have plenty of house stuff planned but I will take sewing breaks as needed.
Have a great day. Dot

Goodies from Finland

Jen, from Life's a Quilt, requested a trade a few weeks ago. She was looking for a specific fabric and was willing to exchange a small quilt for the fabric. Well; I decided to ask her if she would be willing to exchange some Finnish fabric for the fabric she was looking for and a wonderful exchange of fabric was brokered.
Here is a picture of the wonderful fabric and a little extra. The napkins are really cute, I will save them for something special. I already have ideas for the fabric and the ribbon is Christmas ribbon so I will come up with a Christmas project in the future to use that on.
I have been looking for Finnish fabric for a while but could not find any to purchase. My ancestry is Finnish and just thought it would be fun to have a small project made out of some authentic Finnish fabric. I am sooooo happy with what I have. Jen, you were spot on with your choices. I thank you very very much.
Good evening to all. Dot

A Bit Behind

I am working on my HAD but I am a bit behind. My schedule this week does not allow as much sewing time so I am a little (about 1 day) behind on the sewing instructions for this HAD.
Dancing with the Stars was a bit of a disappointment for me. I was not rooting for Kristie, now don't get riled. I just don't think she had the emotion that goes with the dancing. Her technique was great, right on, but it just didn't have the feel of more than doing the required steps as well as possible. Oh well, Jason Taylor, as far as I am concerned, was the best dancer, most improved, and learned how to dance in the process of the show. Enough of that.
Back to sewing before work. Dot

Penguins VS Red Wings

It has been decided. The two teams in the Stanley Cup finals will be Penguins and Red Wings. I will be rooting for the Red Wings, my husband on the other hand will be secretly rooting for the Penguins. He likes the Red Wings but is very impressed with how the Penguins are playing. There was a time when I would have chosen the Penguins but I will stick with the Red Wings
I was asked what fabric I will be using for the stars, well this is it. Only one fabric choice for all 24 stars. We'll see what happens.
On to my sewing machine. Have a good evening. Dot

Starting HAD

This is my light and dark fabric choices for the May HAD that Judy is so generously offering to us out here in blog land. I do not have my star points cut yet because I just ran out of steam.
I spent most of the day working outside, cleaning flower beds and planting, and just became to tired to complete the cutting.
The star points will all be from the same fabric. I calculated the number I need to cut, 192, that is alot of points. I figured 24 stars with 8 points, that equals 192. I don't know if they will all get cut at the same time.
I will start sewing my HST together tonight after dinner. Oh wait, I might be a day behind, I think there is a hockey game on tonight. I am rooting for the Red Wings. I certainly hope they can win tonight and be done with this series. Penguins are in the finals, now it is whoever wins between the Wings and Stars.
Off to work, have a good day. Dot

Tulips two

Not a real good picture of the top but tulips two is done. It measures 65x74.5. I like it but the tulips are a bit squatty for me. I used the technique I wrote about earlier, using Bonnie's boxy star pattern. The tulips come out at 6.5 inches. I think if I did it again I would figure out how to elongate the tulips a bit. I can't say I a really happy with the border either but I just wanted it done so done it is.

I woke this morning with a very sore neck. I must have slept wrong last night. I have not had a very easy time turning my head all day. I hope it is better tomorrow.

Today is hubby's birthday. I took him to lunch a Thai BBQ. It was good. We went shopping for bedding flowers after lunch. To hot to plant today, our temp was 95. I hope to get them planted tomorrow, early before the heat begins.
Well off to shower before my detective program. Enjoy your week-end, what's left of it. Dot

What a difference

It is true, one day can make such a difference. I had a co-worker take a picture of me yesterday at work specifically for use in this post that I had planned for today. I did not know what a significance this picture would have on my plans for the post for today.

I am going to keep you in suspense for a while.

The only way I can think of doing this is to put much white space in between the sentences.

Are your ready, do you really what to know what a difference one day makes????

Well here it is, remember the picture you saw at the beginning of the post??? Well that was a picture of me on my last day of my 40th decade of my life.

This is what I walked into today:

My plans were changed significantly by my co-workers, I was going to have another picture of

myself taken and put the two pictures on my blog as a post for my 50th birthday but my co-workers wanted to do it up big and they did. This is how they decorated my two operatories for the day.

Here is me in of the rooms.

This is me with the most wonderful birthday cake I have ever had. It is some sort of Russian cake. My co-worker Yulia had this cake made for me as my present. WOW!!! What a cake. It is just delicious.

A picture of just the cake. I just can't even begin to explain how good this cake it. Just know that is is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All day long, inside of each of my charts they had fun facts regarding the year 1958. We went to lunch at my favorite Thai restaurant, and had many goodies at the office. What a great birthday at work today.
Last night we went out with friends and they gave me a wonderful gift of Vancouver Canuks stuff. Oh what a great birthday. 5o isn't so bad.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

I hope everyone who is a Mother is having a very Happy Mother's Day. We celebrated last night at our daughters house. What a lovely time.

We had the opportunity to meet fiance's parents. Very nice people and it was very enjoyable visiting with them. His mom is a quilter and sewer so it was fun talking with her about that.

Next year I will get to celebrated Mother's Day with my daughter, she will be a mommy by then. That will be fun.

Well, I bet everyone will have a hard time guessing how I am going to spend my day. Happy sewing. Dot

Not fabulous but functional

Well this is the complete boxy stars quilt using the pattern from Quiltville. As stated in the title it is not fabulous but it will be functional. I will quilt it and donate to charity. The blocks are fun and easy to make but unfortunately I wanted to move on to another project so this quilt will be child size. Oh well, not every quilt needs to be big. Kids need a smaller sized quilt to drag around.
I received good news today. I will have some quilts in the Sisters Quilt Show this July. I am excited about that. I haven't decided if I will post pictures of them before the show or not. I have to ponder on this for awhile. I will say they are all quilts that I have at one time posted and even shown the progress of the quilts. I just might make everyone wait until after the show, see if any photos of them pop up on blogs. Hee Hee.
Off to make dinner. Dot

I made soap yesterday

Yep, that is what I did and it wasn't as easy as it was in the past. I have not had to make any soap for a few years because last time I made it I made so much it took this long to use it up. Well I found out you no longer can purchase Red Devil Lye over the counter. I used to go to the grocery store and buy a few cans of the lye make my soap and all would be happy. Well, Red Devil has decided not to make it available over the counter any longer, low sells and crack producers got the best of home soap makers. Luckily we found enough around the house to make one batch and I had to order more off the Internet. What a pain in the pa-toot!!!!

Oh well, one batch down and I will make more when my lye arrives. I made one batch of oatmeal/honey, 32 bars. It will have to cure for about 6 weeks then we can start using it. I can't wait.
I also finished the baby quilt top and have it on the machine quilting it. I will have it done today and will have to sew the binding on. That will be done and not on the back on my mind. I don't like having needed projects nagging me, it spoils the fun when playing. Don't get me wrong, this quilt was alot of fun to make and I can hardly wait to give it to my daughter but I will have to wait for just the right time.
Off to sew. Have a wonderful day. Dot

I have been sewing

I have been very busy. I finished quilting all the twelve quilts for Rosie and will get them sent off tomorrow. I also decided I needed an easy pattern to make another donation quilt so I settled on Boxy Stars from Bonnie's Quiltville. This is an easy pattern to follow and fun to make. I am a bit slow though and couldn't see the stars in the scrappy look so I decided to make ti using one color for the box and one color for the star, dah!!!! I can see it now. I am a bit slow I admitted.

While I was making the boxy stars I thought what if???? What if I used two colors and placed them a bit differently could I get a tulip? Well as you can see the answer is yes. I do see another tulip quilt coming out of this. Oh so much fun. I won't put words this time but I will make another tulip quilt.
I have also been working on a quilt I won't be able to show until September. I am working on the baby quilt I am making for my daughter and knowing that there are some out there that read my blog close to her I will not be able to post a picture until after I give her the quilt for the baby. Due date of the baby is September 15th so the quilt will be revealed shortly before or shortly after that date. Oh what suspense. All I will say about it is it will be a quilt she will love and will never expect.
Not much else happening. Back to the machine. Have a good week-end. Dot
