Quiling

I finished the top for Live Free or Die today and started quilting it tonight. I know each time I use my longarm I do get better but if only I could quilt like others I see.

I know it will take time and I don't quilt with it every day. I work full time and do a lot of piecing. The mastering of the longarm will come with time.

I must say I am beginning to feel much better about my feathers. They still have a long way to go but I feel more comfortable with them now and don't fret as much as before.

My ruler work is improving but still has a ways to go. All in all I am improving and feel so much more comfortable with my machine each time I use it. I have had it for a few years now but at times it sits very idle. I usually wait until I have a few tops done before I quilt them, I guess I have to get to the point where I don't want anymore unquilted tops sitting around so I get to business and do the quilting. I don't like to accumulate unquilted tops. I now have four waiting but I should only count three because one needs applique before I can quilt it.
Well I best be getting in bed. Tomorrow is only a few minutes away. Good night to all. Dot

Back to the drawing board

Boy did I blow it on this one. I had one yard of the bear fabric that I purchased off the rems rack. I decided I wanted to make a cute baby quilt for the new baby with this fabric. So I started cutting and sewing, cutting and sewing, thinking about what to do next and doing that. No pattern, just making things up as I go along, which is pretty much how I do things. This is the out come, a very large baby quilt. It measures 51x 68. I don't know how big I expect this baby to be. My hubby asked it it was a Baby Huey quilt. I guess that will be the name of the quilt now that I think about it. Baby Huey.
Oh well, I will go back to the drawing board on another day and make a few regular sized baby quilts, to keep at my house, this quilt will wait for a few years when the baby gets a bit older. The quilt will certainly make a nice quilt for a younger child.
Have a good week-end. It is going to be hot, hot, hot here so I will sew and do housework. Enjoy. Dot

Heirloom for the baby

This rocking chair has been in my husbands family for many many years. I do believe it belonged to his great grandmother. He was rocked in it as well as our children also. It is a very comfortable rocker. Well, it was worn, the upholstery was worn and the springs were broken so we had it repaired for our daughter as her baby gift. She did not want any repairs other than the springs and upholstery, so all the nicks, scraps and dings are all there. It creaks just like a rocker should. I like how it turned out. I will have to wait until sometime in September to rock the new baby in it. Oh that day will come fast. Don't pay any attention to to dirty rug or the shoe in the background. I have not done any house work this week. My schedule has been busy.
I joined the the Miniature Booty Swap, by The Quilting Pirate. I am excited and am leaning towards using these embroidered flowers as part of my project. I am not quite sure yet. I will ponder it a bit longer and make a final decision. I will make the roses different colors and come up with a mini quilt. We'll see, I might change my mind.
I am going to sew a few minutes before I get ready for bed. Good evening to all. Dot

Busy, busy, busy

First of all we had a wedding this week. Our sweet daughter got married. Here is a picture of the happy couple. They were married on Thursday, welcome to the family Jeremy. Here is a picture of my 4th of July quilt. I still have red/white/blue borders to put on then it will be done. I have decided to name this quilt "Live free or die". I never really understood this saying until recently. With our current political happenings this saying means much more to me and makes perfect sense.
We are slowly loosing our freedoms and no one seems to mind. Oh the loss is disguised in different justifications but they are still losses and I certainly notice these losses of freedoms and wonder what is happening to our country. Enough of my politics.

This is a quilt top I took the time to make this weekend. I started it last night and finished it today. This quilt will go to Ukraine with my friend. You read about her in previous posts, my co-worker who became a citizen of the United States earlier this year. She is going home for the first time in 7 years. She is very happy to be traveling there as an US citizen. I asked her if I could make her mom a red/white/blue table topper and she said yes. It is actually more like a table quilt, I have not measured it yet but probably about 60" square. I like how it turned out, the pattern was free, I received it in the mail in some sort of add for a quilting magazine. I just might have to make one for myself.
Well I best get off and make some dinner. Have a good evening. Dot

Slow Progress

Here is a picture of the progress on my 4th of July quilt. The picture is not the best but it gives you an idea. I will put the HST borders on the other side than I think I will do a red/white/ blue border and call it good. I like it but I don't know if I am really excited about it. Oh well, it will be done and that will be that. I might change the pinwheel in the corners to a snowball block. I think that might make it flow better. Not tonight though. I am off to make more HST.
Good evening to all. Dot

working slowly but working

Here is a sneak peek at my 4th of July quilt. I have plans to make another round before completing. I hope my plans work out and I hope I have enough of the fabric to do the next round. I really don't want to purchase any more fabric. I have way to much patriotic fabric and want to use it up. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Here is another container I use in my sewing room. It is a rather large wicker pumpkin. I use it for threads and odds and ends that show up it there. I don't know if Sweet Pea's challenge is still going on but I will post this anyway.
Off to wallpaper. I will do the bathroom today and hopefully get things done so we can have full use of the bathroom this week-end.
Happy week-end to all. Dot

Storage containerrs

Sweet Pea, at Coffee time studios, has a contest going right now. She is asking us to post pictures of our unique containers we use in our quilting space. I save containers from groceries and reuse them. I use the lids from cakes for throwing scraps in, I am using a divided container, it was a fruit tray with carmel dip, it works great for my grandmas flower garden project. We traveling I can put the lid on it and everything stays just were I want it.
Have a good Day. Dot

Wallie 2

Here is another wallie I made this weekend. I have been working on my 4th of July quilt and had a couple extra pinwheel blocks. I decided to try making a flower with one of them. Here is the final product. Do I like it! Yeah. Would I have done some things different? Yeah. I already have another idea on my mind for the other one but that will have to wait for another day.
My wallpaper arrived today. Hubby is going crazy because I have not opened the package yet. Why open it if I know whats there? It will be the same today as it will be on Friday night when I finally open it to put it up on Saturday.
Well, I am off to sew the binding on Inca Sunshine. I got it quilted over the week-end.
Good evening to all. Dot

I wonder who

I wonder who is thirsty for a big glass of lemonade on a hot summer day.
Here is the picture of the 4 seasons swap quilt. I can't remember who's blog I read it on but she stated there are so many people in the swap that even if the person whom this is made for sees it, she won't know. How true that is. I have been peeking around and there are some nice quilts being made for this swap. I wouldn't mind receiving all of them.
I have yet to make the label and sew that on but other than that I am finished and this cute little quilt will be sent off to the new owner in a few weeks.
Off to sew. Dot

One wallie done

Here is one wall quilt, or it could be a table mat, that I completed this week.
I have my 4 seasons quilt top done, the binding sewn on, all I have left is to make the label and sew the binding down. I will have to sew the hanging sleeve at the time I do the binding.
The technique I tried this time was using organza over the pitcher in the quilt. I wanted the pitcher to look cool and frosty like a cool refreshing drink so I covered it with organza before I machined appliqued the pitcher to the wall quilt. I was also thinking it might give some depth to the quilt. I think it turned out nicely. You will see a picture of it when I get the binding sewn down. I had some inquiries about the technique so I thought I would talk about it today. I guess it will leave you with some suspense until I take a picture and post it.
I started on a 4th of July quilt. I decided to start a bit earlier this year. Last year I did not start until a few days before the 4th so in order to get it done before I had to work like a mad women. Who knows , that might be the case again this year, just because one starts early doesn't mean it gets done early.
Well, I guess I better get on with my day. I have much house work and errands to run. Have a good day. Dot

Happy, Happy, Happy

The Red Wings win the Stanley Cup. I am a very happy girl tonight. It was a battle, not only against the opponents but against the refs also. The Red Wings prevailed and won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately the win was on the road, in the Penguins arena soooo there was not much fan fare. They did skate with the cup and celebrate but for some unknown reason no team picture.
I am happy, now on to next season.

4Seasons Swap

I am working on the 4 Seasons Swap quilt. It is coming along fine. I changed the fabric I was going to use for the background, I am using it on the back of the quilt. I had actually purchased it for the back but thought it might work on the front but it just didn't have the punch I wanted.
I am trying a new technique and think it is coming out fine. I would explain more about it but can't really do that without giving out the concept of the quilt. I hope my partner likes the concept I have come up with for the summer theme.
I also spent the day looking for wallpaper. Oh how I long for the old days when you could just go into the paint and wallpaper store and purchase paper off the shelf. Not anymore, you have to look through books, make a decision, and wait for delivery. Don't they know I am a get it done now person. I hate this purchase and wait days we live in. I want it done and done now!!!!!
I will have the paper in 7-12 days then I will spend the week-end papering the bathroom. It will look nice when done, very blue, I know that.
Well back to the quilt and then on to dying my hair. Have a good evening. Dot
