This,that and the other

First and foremost, USC Trojans won their game yesterday. HOORAY for that. Cal Bears won also, which makes me happy. Oregon Ducks won, which makes my SIL happy, we forgive him for his love for the ducks. He along with many people in Oregon are happy for that win. I have been working on trimming the HST for Old Tobacco Road quilt. It is slow work but will be worth it when finished. Bonnie sure put the labor into Labor Day.
Here are pictures of the two swap quilts I have received this year. This goes along with a challenge by The Quilting Pirate. I have only entered two swaps and have them hanging on sewing room wall. I am in the process of making a special place for them.

This is the quilt I made for the 4 seasons summer quilt swap

This is the quilt I made for the Miniature Booty Swap 2. I mailed this about a week and a half ago but have not heard if it has been received. It should be there by now though so I don't feel to bad about showing the completed quilt.
Well now back to more trimming and hopefully some sewing today.
Good day to all. Dot

Started the Mystery

Well I have my 182 four patches ready to go. I have the 8 half four patches also. I am patiently awaiting the next step in Bonnie's Old Tobacco Road quilt. This is the first time I have actually participated in one of Bonnie's Mysteries. I am pumped and ready to to. No I did not have these done before Bonnie posted last night. I made them after her post, working hard last night and again this morning. I finished the half four patches tonight after work and did all the ironing. Now I am waiting.

I am also waiting for this. OH YEAH!!! Tomorrow is opening day for Trojan football. I am so excited. You know where I will be tomorrow. They play Virginia.

Let's all join in with Pete Carroll and encourage the mighty Trojans to FIGHT ON !!!!!!!

A Fungly only

the maker could love. Yes, I do think this is about the most ugly "fungly" I have spotted on my blog reads. I don't know what I was thinking other than getting this fabric used up and out of my way.
This will be quilted and donated and somewhere-- somehow-- someone will love it to death.
Whoever decides this is the fungly they can't live without probably won't have to many wanting to steal it away from them. A Charlie Brown Fungly.
Maybe that should be the name The Great Pumpkin Fungly.
Well now to get back to the SITP. G
Good evening to all. Dot

SITP

Here is my progress on SITP. It is going together smoothly but I certainly hope the quilting hides my multitudes of sins. I have many many puckers, tucks and sniped of corners on this quilt. I guess my cutting measurements must have been a hair off because things are just a bit askew, but they are staying that way.
I am not to certain about my color combination either. I should have stayed with the two color combination. Oh, well, live and learn. If I don't like it, someone will, and it will make a good charity quilt.
Time to get ready for bed. Good evening. Dot.

I've been busy

I have been busy all week sewing on the two quilts simultaneously, leader/ender style. I have four more of the white/blue blocks to make then I should be done with them. Oh, I am very happy about that.
One more carpenters star to make than I can figure out how I am going to sash them together.

Fabric for my next fungly. I have decided the funglies will be leader/enders and I will get more quilts done to donate at the end of the year.
I am very seriously thinking of doing Bonnie's new mystery quilt. I have not done one of them yet but this one sounds really cool and I think I have fabrics that will work great. I hope my choices will be right. Time will tell. If the grand baby doesn't come and change my plans I will sew along with her over the Labor Day week-end. College football starts then also so I will have to account for that. The fall will be busy but fun.
Good evening to all. Dot

Booty Swap Received

I received my little quilt from Ann today. She made a beautiful quilt for me. I just love it. Red/white/blue. It is just great. Thank-you Ann. Your work is wonderful. Along with this great little quilt she sent many more goodies.
A really cool card, the picture is just a hoot. A nice note pad, tulips on the front which seems to be my flower this year. A really cute hand made lace piece, that is the round piece on the dark blue paper. I took a photo of it on the paper so I knew it would show up well. A book mark. What a great package to receive on a gray, gloomy. rainy day.
I mailed the quilt I made today off. My partner should be receiving it soon. I hope she likes it. We will find out in a few days.
Good evening to all. Dot

Booty Swap 2

The label is completed and sewn onto the back of the quilt. The quilt is photographed and ready for the reveal after I know the recipient has it in her hot little hands.
Until then here is a sneak peek. I will post the package on Wednesday.
Good evening to all. Dot

My View

This is the view out of my sewing room window today. I was hesitant about the new helmet. It certainly was on the spendy side and I didn't know if I would like the build in sun visor idea, so Hubby had me ride to find out what I thought.

It felt really good to be reunited with Stella. We went around the block three times. The first time I forgot to take the sticker off the visor and complained that is was blurry, the second time I went without the sticker, much better. Third time around the block was with the sticker off the clear visor also so I could see if I liked it that way. I did. I looked like a weirdo, I was riding with all the tags still on the helmet, just in case I wanted to return, I wouldn't have as much of a problem that way. I will keep the new helmet and keep reminding myself that you really can't put a price tag on safety. If it lasts 5 plus years all and all not that expensive. Hopefully with Gods help I will never have to find out the integrity of this new helmet.

Back to sewing. Dot

Productive Day

Another hot day in Portland. I don't know what the official temp was because I have not watched the news at all today. If they have said it on the radio I haven't heard. It was hot and I stayed in doors other than to go out and hang clothes. I just love to hang my clothes out in the summer. I worked on the smaller stars for SITP. I have 7 more of the teal to make and then 20 of the off white. I think that will be enough.

I decided to work on two projects at once and do the carpenters stars as a leader/ender project while working on the stars. I completed another block doing that.
I quilted my fungly. I like this. This quilt was fun and ugly. I might try to do this more often. I certainly have plenty of material for the project.

I decided to make the back fungly also. I found odds and ends of backings from other quilts and pieced them to fit.

A new helmet!!! Monday, August 11th was the one year anniversary date of my accident. I have put off riding but have decided it is time to get back to it again. I needed a new helmet, my old one is still in tact but I just feel like the integrity has been compromised so I wanted a new one. This is it, a pewter color. I will add some retro reflective tape and be ready to roll. I ordered a new jacket also. I hope it fits. The size they had in the store was to big so I ordered one size smaller. Keeping my fingers crossed. I looked at riding pants but not quite ready for that yet. I am getting excited about this, I am ready. This helmet is the same style as my old one but a newer version. It has a built in sun visor, I don't know how I am going to like this but I'll see.
Well best be getting some more done. Almost time for bed. Good evening to all. Dot

Worth the wait

I received my Summer Swap quilt today and it was certainly worth the wait. I love it. Lucy at mybyrdhouse made it for me. She has name it "Here comes the sun." What a fun bright cheerful little quilt to hang in my sewing room.

Not only did she send the quilt but I received other goodies also. Lucy sent a bar of home made soap, it smells so good, Lavender. Oh a bunch of teas, a chicken pin cushion and a hand knit dishcloth. Oh what a great box to receive in the mail today.
Enjoy the week-end. We are still sweating it out here in Portland. Dot

Second set of stars

I have been working on my SITP, I really have. Here is the second set of large stars needed. I think I would like this pattern more if I had only used two colors but no, I had to make it hard on myself and do three. I don't think I will ever do that again. I am working on the small stars now. I think I will need about 24 of them. I am making a queen size so I have to make more blocks. I hope my math is right and I don't have to make anymore while putting the top together but time will tell.

I have decided to take a detour. (Like that is a surprise. ) A comment was left on one of my posts to make the carpenter's star smaller and so I did. I used 2.5 inch squares and it finishes to 16.5 inch block. I will make 9 of these and sew into a quilt top of some sort. I am in the process of trimming the HST's and boy is that boring. I will take a break from this and work once again on the SITP.
Have a good week-end. We are going to have a very very hot one. They are predicting 104 tomorrow and 102 on Saturday. I don't think there will be any outdoor work being done. Housework and sewing, sounds good to me. Good evening to all. Dot.

Bathrobe

Okay am I wrong or not. What baby needs a bathrobe?

When my daughter found out she was pregnant she bought a few baby items. All of have done this with the excitement of being pregnant for the first time. One of the items she purchased was a baby bathrobe just like this one. I laughed and told her it was such a waste. Who wants to put a bathrobe on a baby and what baby can even walk to wear a bathrobe. I hence started calling it the baby's smoking jacket. Well, one of her friends gave her another robe, just like the one she bought, so she thinks I need it at my house for the baby. Oh and not only that she received two more at the shower. Now tell me what baby needs one robe let alone four. Am I just to old fashioned or does anyone else think this is strange? Please let me know. Dot

Finally

I made this little quilt way back in June. I could not post a picture because it was a gift for a friend, she reads my blog so I could not post until I gave the quilt to her. We finally had an opportunity to meet today for lunch so I gave her the gift. She liked it.
I got the pattern for Quilts with Style. I don't remember which month or year but it is in one of their magazines. The dragon fly is paper pieced and fun to make.
Well off to the evening. Have a good week-end. Dot

Fungly Done

Here is a picture of my fungly. I finished the top tonight. I don't know when quilting will get done either this week-end or next.
I will go back to SITP and get more blocks done on that. I just might make another fungly if I get tired of making blocks for SITP.
Have a good evening. Dot

My Fungly

Tonya, at Lazy Gal Quilting, has put a challenge out to make a fungly. I understand that a fungly is a fun quilt made with ugly fabric, or fabric you no longer desire. Well I have some ugly material that I had cut into 2.5 inch strips to get rid of in miscellaneous ways. I decided this project would be one of my ways at this time. Here is where I am so far with my fungly. It is about half way sewn into a top. I most likely will put a border on it but will make that decision when all the blocks are sewn together and I see what the results are. I will keep you posted.
I am getting very excited to post the pictures of the baby quilts. I will post most likely on Sunday. The baby shower is Saturday so the secret quilts will be given to the Mom to be then so I will be able to post. I have been waiting so long. I hope everyone likes them as much as I do.
Well time to go watch some tube with hubby. Have a good evening. Dot

What became of the fish?

Here is the quilt. This is what I had planned to make with the wonky fish I showed the other day.
I really need to start planning my quilts better. This once again was to be a baby quilt for the grand baby. Well, guess what, it is big, 48x61. I just start sewing without any thought of what the size might be when I finish. As you can also see, I don't put much fore thought into what fabric I might have on hand and how much of the fabric I might have either. I mostly purchase rems so I use what I have and make it work. I do like the variety I get this way, it probably does not appeal to most people, but I like the charm of it.
I will hopefully get a back pieced together tomorrow and quilted. I think I will do an pantograph and add eyes and bubbles afterwards.
I best get to bed. It is late and tomorrow morning will come sooner than later.
Good night to all. Dot

Pattern

Silverthimble wanted to know the name of this pattern. I received this many years ago in an add for a quilt magazine. Here is the pattern I followed. It is a fun, fast quilt to make. If you try it let me know and post a picture of the results.

Have a good day. Dot
