Hand Quilted

Last night while watching football I started getting chilly so I pulled this quilt out to use. This is one of my first quilts, dated 1998, back when I first started and I hand quilted all the quilts I made. It didn't take me long to figure out this took a long time, so I soon figured out how to manipulate them in my sewing machine until I finally got my longarm.
As I looked at the quilt I don't think I did to bad of a job. The backing I used was disappointing though because the batting has peeled through. Oh well, it resides in my home so I guess that really doesn't matter.
I just thought I would share a couple pictures with you, I really had forgotten about quilting this. Reading through blogs and seeing how many are hand quilting doll quilts I just felt compelled to share. I don't know if I will ever hand quilt again, maybe my grandmas flower garden when it is completed, time will tell.

I hope your holiday week-end is going well Be safe. Dot

P.S. Katrina--Happy Birthday to you. Love Aunt Dee Dee

I wonder if we all started out by hand quilting? I didn't really know there was any other way. My problem? I grew up doing embroidery, so I pulled that quilt just as tightly as I could in my hoop and 'stab stitched' my little fingers off *s* That's when I figured out how to use the machine. I do enjoy the feeling of needle and thread in my hands, so I will try to hand quilt a little something from now on. Thanks for sharing your beauty of a quilt. I can see why you would reach for it when the air gets cool.

I have never hand quilted anything so I am always very impressed by anyone that does!

Some quilts just call to be hand quilted, although fewer and fewer get that attention from me. Your quilt is lovely!

Nice handquilting, Dot. I like what you did in the sashing areas. There's just something soothing about handquilting although it does take a long time.

I think hand quilting is my favorite part of quilting, although I will never attempt to handquilt a queen size quilt again! It took me 10 years of on and off quilting to finish the one on my bed. Yeesh! I finally gave it to a gal with a longarm to finish up the edges for me.

Your handquilting is wonderful!!! I love to hand quilt as machine sewing is not my favorite thing.

I have never machine quilted, but then again I've only made a few quilts. Give me hand quilting any day.

It is a beautiful quilt. Thanks for sharing its story.

That is some beautiful handquilting. I haven't done any - well I took a class and made a pillow - but I do have a couple of quilts that may be hand quilted when they are finished being topped.

Your hand quilting is gorgeous. I'm still hand quilting because my machine intimidates me. You rock for evolving and learning new skills.

I love watching football under a quilt.
