My Charlie Brown top

Here is the top I completed today. It is my first Charlie Brown (CB) top of the year. Why do I say first, because I am bound to make a few more before the year is out. I say Charlie Brown top because it didn't go together that well, points don't match and there are many many tucks a buckles in the top. Some little kid will love it though.
Last year, Aug 12th, I was supposed to meet with the ladies in the sewing group I attend. Well for those of you who have been regular readers of my blog you know I did not make this date because the day before I wrecked my motorcycle and broke both my arms. We were to work on stack n wack that day. With broken arms I was unable to start my quilt so decided earlier in the week maybe I should try it. Well this is the result of that attempt. Not good.
This is the first time I have ever made a stack n wack. I bought some Halloween fabric I thought would work but as you can see it didn't. I certainly learned a lot in this process. I learned that the fabric needs to have a repeat but it doesn't or shouldn't have a lot of solid space between the design. I learned that the yardage is important and it seems to take a lot of fabric. I don't know if I particularly like this concept either. I might try again with a different pattern. As you might also suspect form the top I was short two squares. I cut two squares form the left over fabric but guess what, forgot to add the 1/2" to the square size so to small. What did I do, add a bright yellow border around those two square so they stick out like a sore thumb. Now, wouldn't everyone do this!!!! What an idiot I am.
Oh well, it's done, I will quilt it, and somebody out there will love this little quilt to death. Who knows when the next CB top will appear. Good evening to all. Dot

it may not have turned out exactly as it was supposed to but it still looks good to me.

Dot,
You're not an idiot. There is a learning curve with any new technique and I'm very impressed with the fact that you finished it! Good for you.

Happy Quilting!
Teri

Dot, The fact that you made a quilt while injured is amazing. The quilt looks great to me. I've made two S&W quilts and the second time was a lot easier for me simply from having the experience of the first. I like making them and have fabric here for another if I ever pause long enough to start. My stash overfloweth...

I like your CB quilt! It'll be very cuddly. I've done the same thing... add size with a small border and then realize I could or should have used a different color. Oh, well... some kid surely won't complain. It looks intentional.

Oh.. P.S. Congrats on becoming a grandma in the making!! How very exciting! And YES, it is John Wesley (at my blog). I knew someone would know that right away. You win! Please email me your address, and I'll send you a FQ.

As the old saying goes..you had lemons so you made lemondade. You certainly made the best of the situation with the CB quilt. I like your positive attitude! You are right - some child will love the quilt.

Everyone LOVES Charlie Brown! And as far as I know, not everyone can knock one out of the park the first time. It looks fine, and it will be much loved by someone and never forgotten by you.

It may not be perfect, the points might not be quite right, but someone is going to love and appreciate this quilt! I've been too scared to try this technique, so you are WAY ahead of me!! I actually like those two corner blocks because they show what the fabric originally looked like! And hey, you learned what not to do and what TO do the next time you try the S&W.
Good for you!!!

You're right. Someone will just love it! I have the Stack n Whack (Wack?) book but haven't tried it yet. My mom made a bunch of them and they were all great. Maybe that's why I haven't tried yet! LOL

I'm getting caught up on a bit of blog reading this afternoon.

I was too intimidated by the stack and whacks when I used to quilt. Good for you to give it a try. I'm sure the next one will be perfect!
