Bring on the fire.............

camp fire that is. These are a couple more campfire quilts that I have made. I realized I hadn't taken any pictures of them so I thought I would get that done before I pack them for camping. This green one is odds and ends of a quilt I was going to make and then changed my mind. I decided to use up the nine patches I made and make a green quilt, using up green fabric I really didn't know where else it would fit.
This goofy quilt is just using up ugly fabric that was given to me. I just wanted a practice quilt and this is the result. Maybe I will be lucky and this one will get quite a few embers landing on it and small holes. I am almost embarrassed to show it, but I guess not that embarrassed because here it is. Now you know ugly quilts can be made and quilted.

Reason for pictures. I try to take pictures of all the quilts I make. There are a few that I wanted to get them done and in the mail, that I forgot to snap a picture before boxed and sent. Picture lost forever memory only in my mind. Oh well, life goes on.

What are campfire quilts? Will they be given away to some campfire kids? I want to tell you a story about quilts that were given away and one person who worried about the "ugly" one... first I'll wait to find out what campfire quilts are.

Good use of the fabrics for the green nine patches---such a versatile block.

Beauty would be in the eye of the beholder on the other---improvisitional and to my mind, much like the Gee's Bend quilts that everyone raves about. Someone tells you it is "art", then it is "art".

I have paid money to have ugly quilts quilted! :o)

Those real ugly ones are good to give to homeless people because they are less likely to be able to sell an ugly quilt than a nice one that you doneted. (This is also the way to donate a double polyester quilt!)

Perfect quilts for camping! People's interpretation of "ugly" is so interesting! I don't think the second quilt is ugly at all - just a very creative use of fabrics! And I love those plaids - I spend my good hard earned money on them all the time.

But I like your campfire quilts - they're quirky and interesting because they are different (note: different, NOT ugly). I surely hope that embers don't land on them, they're far too nice to be ruined. Although, to be fair, I know what you mean about 'practice' quilts that aren't necessarily made with the expectation of perfection in mind.

I like your 'ugly' quilt actually - it looks like a utility quilt whenb keeping warm was way more important than looking beautiful in those covered wagon days long long ago - the true use for a quilt :o)

I love the quilts Dot...and I think ugly is only in the eye of the beholder. Just as all people aren't attractive or good looking, quilts can be that way too.
If I had to choose between a co-ordingated, perfectly matched cookie cutter quilt and your second one...I'd take yours. It's interesting. It tells the view it's all about the "business" of keeping someone warm and dry. No pretending to be a beauty. Just a good solid useable quilt. In reality, not so different than the Gee's Bends quilts. Hugs, Finn

I try to take pictures of all my quilts too. I really like the nine patch one. The other one is finished, and I'm sure it is cozy and warm and cuddly. A finished quilt is better than no quilt. I don't think it is ugly either.
