Out of commission

Well fellow bloggers, I am out of commission for awhile. Our bike ride on Saturday was wonderful until I went into a rear wheel skid and ended up on the pavement. I was going down hill, in some curves, down shifted to slow down and went into 1st gear instead of 2nd. Well this caused to much drag on the rear wheel and sent me into a skid. Hubby was behind me, he said the bike and I skidded about 50 feet on the asphalt. I couldn't think of anything to do after I hit the pavement so I counted my rolls, it was either 4 or 5. I did have all my riding gear on so my helmet (full face with face shield) and leathers took the majority of abuse. I got up, I could walk with no pain, I could talk and carry on a coherent conversation, so I started wiggeling fingers. What did I end up with? I ended up with two broken arms. Lots of bruising on my arms, I don't know what the arm under the ace bandage looks like, I'll find out when the orthopedic surgeon takes the wrap off. I had to have IV sedation to set my left arm, its the one most injured. I hope there isn't any surgery needed but will find out after I see the surgeon.
I don't know what I am going to with myself during recovery. I can't work and I can't do any sewing. I can walk so this just might be my diet plan. I hope my right arm is okay in a couple weeks for sewing, it has only a hairline fracture. One of life's hiccups. It seems like I am on the 5 year plan with major body injuries. I look back and see the pattern. The saying is things come in three's, well this is my third major injury so maybe this is it.
Not to much damage to the bike, a broken mirror, broken riding light, tail light and some scrapping along with a couple small dents in gas tank. Hubby rode my bike to the main hi-way, a friend came and picked the bike and me up, and he said the handle bars are a bit out of alignment.
I am home, it could have been worse, and I will heal. Not much else, my arm is getting sore from typing. I don't know when I will post again but I will be reading. I most likely won't comment. Good night to all. Dot

P.S. Yes I will ride again, most likely not until next year but I will ride again.

Goodness, Dot, that sounds very frightening - you were lucky not to have been hurt even worse. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

What a scary accident. I guess it could have been worse but two broken arms is certainly bad enough. There is not much you can do with two arms out of commission. I hope you like reading. I hope you get the use of at least your right arm back very soon.

Oh Dot!!! I thought of you all weekend imagining your ride. I am so sorry you broke your arms but glad that it wasn't worse. You could read in your spare time, now. By the time you are back you'll have so many quilt designs in your head... take care of yourself.

Oh Dot. You poor thing. I just commented on Finn's post where she fell on her head! I thought that was terrible, but you falling from a bike and breaking both arms...!!!! I hope this is your last major injury FOREVER! I felt even worse as I HAD to giggle at your comment about how you did not know what to do once you hit the pavement so you counted rolls! So glad you have such a sense of humor! I will pray a quick recovery and NO surgery. I guess you will have time to read. ;)

You have a great sense of humor about it - counting rolls - diet plan - you crack me up!

I'll be praying for a quick and complete recovery for you.

Oh, my, Finn's Daffy Duck must have been by you too. I sure hope that duck has grounded himself. Read blogs and books. Movies are good too. Lots of TLC from Katie and Kipper.

Me again. I told Ralph about your spill and he read your post. He admires your spunk for wanting to ride again. He chuckled that you don't know how bad your arm looks under the bandage but you know *everything* that is wrong with your bike.

Oh, dear, how awful! I can't beging to imagine what it would be like to have two broken arms!

My 10yo DD took a spill on her bicyle a couple of weeks ago and came home with road rash all over her arms and legs. It's just so painful!

I hope you get feeling well soon. Enjoy your therapy, but don't over do it!
