Well ladies, I am once again working on SITP and have decided I want to make it queen size. The instructions are for a double ( I am guessing) and to make it queen you need to make more blocks and sew more rows on the diagonal. I could not figure out how to sew the rows without a visual aid. What was my solution. I copied two copies of the layout, cut out the tiny pieces and glued them together on paper. Here is the diagram. Believe me, this took some thought and time on my part. I might be a bit slow in this department but it worked.
Hopefully I will complete this top over the week-end.
Good evening to all. Dot

What a great idea to try out a layout.

I have often thought I'd like EQ but then decided I spend enough time on the computer already. I really like the snail's trail with the stars in the center.
That was good thinking! Looks pretty too!
Very smart!
I too hope you finish this over the weekend. It'll be fun to see it come to life.
Soemthing to look forward to!, *karendianne./ Living Life at LeeHaven
I actually have EQ. But there have been a couple of times I have done exactly what you did. Sometimes I just like to futz with paper and scissors.
Hi Dot -- that's a layout technique I'll have to remember! I did a lot of ripping and resewing to get my blocks in the right places. Are you a member of the Yahoo SITP list?
The snails trail looks hard for me to try, But it looks great
What a great looking quilt. It will be exciting to see the finished top. Thanks for participating in my blog giveaway. I am hosting a fall quilters blog giveaway, so stop on by and sign up.
Your tobacco road quilt looks wonderful - and you have it completed so fast!
The instructions in the book are for a twin. What a great idea for figuring out a queen size. I tried to look at some pictures and it looks like you don't need very many extra blocks to make it bigger. I am only guessing so let me know if I figured wrong, but I think you need 8 V and W blocks, 25 X blocks, 20 Y and Z blocks. I'll look at your picture some more to see if I've got that right.
Hi Dottie, big hugs GF! I totally see why you would have to do, cut and psste the diagram to make it bigger than the directions. Makes perfect sense to me!!
Love, love, love your Tobacco Road. I've begun it(of course I have!) but as you say its time consuming and I have a couple of pressing deadlines to meet before I can give it serious stitching time. The 4 patches are easy, it's the triangle pairs that slow me down. I don't have a tubful to use!
I love the intensity of yours with the darker and lighter contrast!
Big hugs, Finn
Gosh, I am not sure how big mine is, but I do use it on my queen size bed... we have a beautiful curved footboard so all my quilts go the opposite way than most people put their quilt on the bed. I made both my SITP from an OLD quilting magazine and maybe mine IS a different size than the one in the book??? I don't know because I don't have the book - but you can look at my SITP at my blog - it is in the sidebar - if that is any help. BUT - since you are probably 100X more proficient at computers than me - looks like you have arrived at a solution that works for you! Can't wait to see the finished top!!!
Cheers!
Evelyn
I'd love to get EQ! Perhaps when I get my new computer...? So doing my doodles on graph paper will have to do for now... 8-)
Love the stars and snails trails! Or is it tail? hmmmmm?
Happy stitchings!
