Found an Opps

While quilting the Ladder quilt I came across this opps. Why does this happen to me. I don't find my mistakes until I am in the quilting process and much to late to fix. Does this happen to anyone else?
I finished the binding on the other quilt. I will get a picture during the week and post. I hope to have this completed to sew the binding while I watch the hockey game. The Senators best win, I don't really want the Ducks to win the Stanley Cup.

I once heard that the Amish people made always a mistake in their quilts because only god is inerrant.

I have left small errors in my quilts..........I call them "keeping me humble" blocks. Nothing is perfect, ever and those errors make the quilt MINE!

Its beautiful just the way it is!

Well some of mine have also mistakes I found later, but I don't worry about those as it makes it my quilt.

It adds character!! (And if you didn't notice until now, it's not very noticeable!)

I doubt if there is a quilter out there who hasn't done the same thing. I am currently hand quilting a Double Irish Chain that has the same kind of mistake. At least everyone will know it's not made by machine!

I love 'can you spot the deliberate mistake' things in quilts even when they're not deliberate - in generations to come people will look at your quilt and say 'I wonder if she meant to do that'

I never find my mistakes until it's far to late to do anything about them - good thing they don't really bother me *s* Unlike the Amish - I don't have to work at putting in errors . . . they are built in.

Call it intentional and go with it. It's lovely, and I had to look really hard to figure it out. Best yet -- could be a great game for children to play with the quilt -- can you find the one block that is different?

*humming* "One of these things is not like the other...one of these things just doesn't belong..."

Regarding 'opps' .. sometimes I assist non-quilting friends to discuss or evaluate their quilts which have been handed down from a special person. I tell them the name of the block, if it is hand or machine sewn/quilted, and anything else about it's possible history. Sometimes, there is an "oops" .. and THAT is the ONE thing they remember the most. I issue (which is pretty arrogant when we include that excuse in our quilt error!) and explain how it happens easily. But they LOVE that part of the story, so ... no problem with my own "oops" - it adds to the value.

Oh, yes, by the way, really cool quilt! Jacob's Ladder is one of my favorite patterns. I think I've made 5 of them so far. Yours is so pretty and sparkly.

I looked and looked! Okay, I found it, but it looks so natural!

I even like your Oops, as it adds interest to the quilt, sort of :-)
If I see an Oops in a quilt I think it was pieced by a person who was very in to the joy of finishing the top, eager to make more lovely quilts. We are in this for the joy right :-)
